Climb into the naked ladies, er light
Climb into the naked ladies, er light
Steve climbs the steps to the naked lady floor. Note the Louvre's large version of the international pictographic sign for same.

Yes, they are naked up there, too. Well, maybe...
painting of light
painting of light
Still naked. Continuing where we left off in the large painting hall. Dunno who (Anne-Louis) Girodet Trioson was, but she certainly knew how to paint light!
Catacomb entrance
Catacomb entrance
Next day, Emily takes us to the Catacombs--Kacie's and Emily's favorite tourist spot in Paris. I snuck in this photo of the entrance (not selected by Vicki, since the two Catacomb pix she selected and the Catacombs themselves were so dark).
Steve walking in the darkness
Steve walking in the darkness
That's me, in the dark, walking and walking, and walking to get to the bones... The entrance is at least two blocks away from the actual catacombs for some reason. A long way in the dark, 10 meters below the surface.
skull heart of darkness.
skull heart of darkness.
This is a heart of human skulls in a wall of femurs, I think. Hundreds of thousands of relocated skeletons, carefully stacked and arranged in artistic patterns. Go figure.
first morning in Nice
first morning in Nice
Emily has finished her last day at work, and she is ecstatic about being free at last. We take a sleeper train to Nice, and in the early morning we leave our luggage at the hotel, have coffee in the hotel cafe, and go out exploring.
Orchids in the Nice hotel cafe
Orchids in the Nice hotel cafe
Our very posh hotel in Nice is nice. Everything and everyone at the French Riveria seems nice, actually, if you'll forgive the pun...
overexposed Steve on beach
overexposed Steve on beach
White out! Steve on no-sand beach.
Ariel on Nice beach
Ariel on Nice beach
Ariel checks out the Mediterranean. Water is cold, beach is all rocks, and the weather is windy and chilly. Close enough to perfect for us!

Ariel and Emily on the beach
Ariel and Emily start the miniature rock graffiti art movement. (I always carry around a few Magic Markers in my purse for these sort of inspirational moments.) Spectators seem unimpressed.

They also do performance art.

Ariel hates having her picture taken, but I wore her down.

More transient rock sculpture.
Nice cafe
Nice cafe
Cafe in Nice. Ariel and Emily deemed this the Snotty Old People Cafe. I guess you had to be there.
sandy Nice beach spot

We find the one sandy spot on the 5 Km long Nice beach.

...and the drunks come out. We don't really mind, they are friendly enough, and even speak a little English. Very little.

Emily at sunset
My camera solarizes the sun. Pretty cool. I like it, anyway.

Yet another dueling camera picture...

Nice drunks aren't too bad, really. The drunkest dude waves hi!

More performance art with an audience of jovial drunks.
